also musing on dawntrail's writing. i saw someone once claim everyone has to be an idiot now bc WoL is so overpowered. but i think thats honestly a really weird take, that... very much did not happen at all in dawntrail. what i saw and what i think we can expect to happen more, is that the conficts got increasingly complex socially and politically to make fighting our way through everything the stupid option for once instead of speedrun mode for WoL. and honestly i hope this is what we can look forward to seeing more of, because it will make for a much more interesting story than "lets figure out how to keep escalating stakes shonen manga style."

#which is not to say theres anything wrong with shonen #but continuously beating bigger baddies is not quite the expectation ffxiv ever set #there is probably still going to be a little of that but like #from the beginning ffxiv has had a LOT to say about politics and social conflict + negotiation #its a basic foundation of the game! the politics of beast tribe definitions is introduced IN ARR #i think its a strength of the story tbh it got so many angles to examine interpersonal/social relationships #yelling at the void #ffxiv #dawntrail spoilers #just to be safe ig but theres no specifics
